Revitalize Your Appearance With Xeomin
Xeomin is an extremely popular injectable treatment specifically approved by the FDA to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines, or frown lines, that appear between the eyebrows. These lines and folds tend to become more and more persistent as we age due to repeated muscle contractions from squinting, frowning or other facial expressions.
Xeomin injections work similarly to Botox (it’s actually made from the same neurotoxin ingredient as Botox, botulinum toxin type A), to relax these facial muscles and lessen their ability to contract. However, Xeomin is a purer form of neurotoxin, and for that reason may be a better fit for some individuals than Botox.
For some, Xeomin may come with a decreased risk of unwanted allergic reactions. Fewer additives can also lower the risk of developing antibodies that could decrease the effectiveness of repeated injections over time.
Xeomin Treatment Uses
- Xeomin is used to reduce moderate to severe lines and folds between the eyebrows, upper face, and other areas with lines and wrinkles due to muscle movement.
- Xeomin is sometimes used off-label to treat excessive sweating, necklines, and enlarged pores or for a “lip flip” to give the appearance of a more voluminous lip.
- Xeomin is also sometimes used to treat involuntary neck and arm spasms, eye twitching, and excessive drooling.

Good Candidates for Xeomin
The best way to find out if Xeomin is right for you is to schedule a professional consultation with a knowledgeable, experienced clinician. When you schedule a consultation at one of our four Texas locations, we’ll perform a custom assessment of your skin, facial features and muscle tone as well as any medications you may take, your medical history, and any current medical conditions you may have. You should come armed with a list of any medications and supplements you take, prescription or over-the-counter, as well as any and all questions or concerns you may have.
Generally, however, ideal candidates for Xeomin should be in overall good health and have noticeable lines, wrinkles or furrows between their brows. You shouldn’t receive Xeomin injections if:
- You’re under the age of 18
- You have known allergies to the injectable or any type of botulinum toxin
- You have a preexisting nerve or muscular disease
- You have an existing neurological condition
- You’re breastfeeding or pregnant
What Should I Expect During a Xeomin Treatment?
A Xeomin treatment session typically takes only 10-20 minutes. your clinician will mark the planned injection sites and perform a quick, minimally invasive treatment that is reported as no to minimal pain. Typically, you’ll receive between 25-75 units of the product in one session, and you may just experience a slight poking or pinching feeling. If you do experience any mild discomfort, you may receive a cold pack, a topical anesthetic, or a vibration anesthetic to numb the injection area.
Post-treatment, you may notice a slight reddening of the area or bruising. During the first 24 hours, you should abstain from drinking alcohol, vigorous exercise, taking blood thinners, or rubbing or lying on your face.
FAQs
What are some of the benefits of Xeomin?
For its effectiveness in minimizing frown lines between the eyes and brow furrows, Xeomin treatments are quick, easy, and minimally invasive. Some individuals may respond more favorably to Xeomin than to Botox or other types of injectables thanks to its pure protein formulation.
What is the difference between Xeomin, Botox, and Dysport?
While Xeomin, Botox, and Dysport are each made from the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A. Xeomin is actually a purer form of the neurotoxin used in Botox and is specifically FDA-approved for frown lines.
Botox and Dysport, on the other hand, vary in the potency of their active proteins, with Dysport typically being faster to take effect. Botox is also approved for more on-label treatment areas of the face than Xeomin injection sites.
We’re proud to offer each type of injection to ensure you can receive the treatment that works best for you.
How many injections would I need?
Each individual case will vary, but an average dose of Xeomin typically consists of about 25-75 units injected into the facial muscles.
How much does it cost?
Because every person and face is different, the cost and number of units will vary according to your unique features and needs. During a consultation, our clinicians can assess your muscle activity and work with you to create a customized treatment plan.
Does Xeomin have any side effects?
Like any prescription medication, there’s a chance of experiencing side effects with Xeomin. The most common side effect is a temporary headache at or near the injection site. Less commonly, people may experience allergic reactions. If you experience difficulty breathing or swallowing after your procedure, or experience itchiness, hives, or other allergy-type symptoms, you should tell your doctor and seek medical treatment.
You should also seek medical treatment immediately if you experience symptoms such as drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision, decreased eyesight, neck pain, shortness of breath, loss of bladder control, or overall muscle weakness. While rare, these symptoms could be a sign of a more severe or even life-threatening medical emergency.
How long does it take to see results?
After your injection, you may notice your lines and wrinkles become smoother as soon as 3 to 4 days post-injection. On average it takes less than a week to see results, although it can take up to two weeks to see the full effects.
How long do results last?
On average, the results of one Xeomin treatment can last for up to three months or more. Often, subsequent treatments last longer than the first one performed.
